Tutoring and Service Learning in Jamaica

University students who participate in the service learning trips of the JAFSP volunteer in the local community and schools in a number of areas. Students may assist with the JAFSP’s ongoing literacy program, helping primary and basic school students who are learning to read and write. Literacy is a growing concern throughout the “third world”, where illiteracy is a growing problem.

In addition to our ongoing literacy programs, students may assist in the public schools by offering instruction in any number of areas - including art, physical education, science, math, and health. Any university student can assist in the Jamaican schools with the JAFSP.

The trips of the JAFSP often include music students, who donate musical instruments and offer music instruction in the local primary schools. Music education majors work under the supervision of certified NYS public school music educators and professors.

University students from across the US may enroll for our upcoming trips, regardless of major or year of study. Feel free to contact the JAFSP with any questions about our course offerings, at info@jafrp.org

Interested students should fill out the online application. They will then be contacted to setup a brief telephone interview. Students are urged to apply early, as trip sizes are limited...
